Healing Horizon Family Therapies
Treatment options for the whole family
The treatment involves gentle non-invasive techniques that release tensions and restrictions with the aim of improving the functioning of the central nervous system and the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. The name Craniosacral originates from the words "Cranio" (cranium) and "Sacral" (sacrum). The cranium and the sacrum are connected through the outermost membrane, dura mater, which surrounds the central nervous system, the brain and the spinal cord and protects the cerebrospinal fluid. Together the cranium, the sacrum and dura mater form the Craniosacral system. Craniosacral therapy is based on a rhythm that occurs due to the production and resorption of the cerebrospinal fluid. This pulsation creates constant small movements in the sacrum and the cranium and places great demand on the connective tissue in and around the Craniosacral system. The Craniosacral system can affect and be affected by other systems in the body, just as restrictions and tensions in the Craniosacral system may lead to various symptoms. The aim of the treatment is therefore to optimize the elasticity of the connective tissue and optimize the Craniosacral rhythm without stressing the body.
Benefits for the whole family!!!
THE BIRTH PROCESS
The birthing process may involve heavy and strenuous labor for the mother and baby.
During the birth process the mother’s and baby’s bodies are meant to work together in harmony to ensure a smooth delivery.
In the birth process strong compression and decompression forces enable the baby’s cranial bones slide over one another and mold in order to pass through the mother’s pelvis and into the birth canal. These bones normally slide back into place after birth. Sometimes the bones of the baby’s skull get stuck and don’t go back into position, which can then cause the tissues, nerves and blood vessels in the area to get tight and restricted. When the function of the nerves, tissues and blood vessels is compromised it can result in challenges like colic, breathing difficulties, Restlessness, sleep challenges, swallowing or latch difficulty and digestive upsets.
A vulnerable area is the base of the skull through which nerves and blood vessels go in and out. The Vagus nerve which runs through this area affects speaking, swallowing, coughing among other functions of all organs.
BIRTH TRAUMA
A baby may experience physical or emotional trauma in utero or during the birth process. A Craniosacral Therapy (CST) session is gentle which can safely and effectively address or resolve these and other issues that may arise from a their entrance into the world.
Babies are highly adaptable so it is ideal for a baby to get evaluated soon after birth when both mom and babe have had time to heal and bond.
During a CST Session as the compression forces or tension in the tissues are released their breathing may become easier which may result in the baby vocalizing, unwinding or any accompanying emotions. This is a normal part of the process as the tissues of the body release long held trauma.
The sessions can be very deeply relaxing and it is not unusual for a baby to sleep for longer than usual after a session.
In releasing the tension and restrictions in the tissues, nerves and blood vessels CST can allow the nervous system and the other systems of the body to function more cohesively.
AS OUR KIDS GROW
It is no secret that for the first few years of life children go leaps and bounds of both developmental and physical milestones. Having CST during these transition times can help ensure that your littles are getting off "on the right foot." From helping reduce cranial pressure from teething to sore growing legs.
